In transit: Germany

Our 747 turned out to be a United Airlines 747-400, fully loaded. First class was impeccable, with fully reclining seats, individual video screens, and more. Business class wasn't too far behind. In coach, there were enough empty seats that most people had entire rows to themselves to sleep.

The United crew was absolutely awesome. Being a fully military-chartered flight, the pilots left the cabin door open the entire flight and allowed us (mostly the aviators in the crowd) to ask questions and see operations from the cabin. The flight attendants were top-notch and truly enjoyed having us aboard.

We stopped to refuel at the former Hahn Air Base in Germany. The flight was approximately 8.5 hours from South Carolina and it went by in a flash because of the accomodations and friendliness of the crew.
