Today's destination...

...is the incredibly small enclave known as FOB Shield. We are located somewhere on the east side of the Tigris River in Baghdad. Where exactly, I don't really have much of a clue. I haven't seen a map, so I haven't really figured that out yet.

We're here as a stop-and-wait "safe" place for an escort mission. I awoke with not nearly enough sleep and left Ashraf way too early this morning. Once the "escortees" (is that even a word?) are ready, we'll head back to Ashraf.

As I mentioned this FOB is very small. I've found MWR, which is also the gym. The DFAC is pretty small as well, which gives away just how small things are here. Breakfast was good though! Furthermore, the Internet here is lightning fast when compared to the snail's pace I've been getting used to at Ashraf. SPAWAR VOIP phones provided an inexpensive way to call home. The Hadji shop sells DVDs, and I was mightily tempted to pay $22 for "24: Season 5," but it just sounded too good to be true (and probably is).

It's almost lunch time...
