Mark locks in Chase for the championship

Mark Martin was 9th in the standings and for all intents and purposes on the bubble of this year's NASCAR Nextel Chase. But a strong 5th place performance at Richmond moved him up to 7th and locked him into the Chase. Tony Stewart had a poor night, and the defending champion fell out of the top ten and will not defend his title. The points have been reset and the top ten are as follows:

1. Matt Kenseth (Leader)
2. Jimmie Johnson -5
3. Kevin Harvick -10
4. Kyle Busch -15
5. Denny Hamlin -20
6. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. -25
7. Mark Martin -30
8. Jeff Burton -35
9. Jeff Gordon -40
10. Kasey Kahne -45
11. Tony Stewart

With Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. missing the Chase last year, and Tony Stewart missing this year, I'd expect some tweaking of the points system and rules in the off-season to prevent NASCAR's "stars" from missing out.
