#ShmooCon Travel #ProTips

For better or worse, I work in DC so here are some travel tips I've put together for your ShmooCon weekend:

Arriving via DCA (Reagan National)? Take the Yellow Line to Gallery Place/Chinatown and then the Red Line to Dupont Circle. Walk three blocks north on Connecticut Avenue to get to the Hilton.

Arriving via IAD (Dulles)? The Metro doesn't reach out that far. Try the Super Shuttle or take a cab to somewhere along the Orange Line. Take the Orange Line to Metro Center and then the Red Line to Dupont Circle. Walk three blocks north on Connecticut Avenue to get to the Hilton.

Arriving via BWI? Take the MARC Penn Line to Union Station, then follow the directions below via Union Station. The MARC Penn Line schedule is here.

Alternate BWI method: Alternatively, you can take the B30 bus from BWI to Greenbelt, then hop on the Metro Green Line. Ride the Green Line to Gallery Place/Chinatown and then the Red Line to Dupont Circle. Walk three blocks north on Connecticut Avenue to get to the Hilton.

A few extra tips:

Metro trains run less frequently on the weekends. You can expect to wait 10-20 minutes (or more) for a train.

"DC Metro Rails" is a useful Android app for Metro arrival times. There are several similar ones for the iPhone.

If you're planning on using the Metro after 10PM on Friday night and anytime during the weekend, please see this maintenance alert. The Red Line north of Dupont Circle will be partially shut down.

The weekend weather forecast calls for rain on Friday and highs in the 50s the rest of the weekend. Compared to previous years it should be very nice!!!

If you have any other questions about travel in the local area, don't hesitate to ask. You can find me on Twitter at @theprez98.

The only thing I would add: if you arrive at BWI, you can take the Penn Line MARC Train to Union Station and then the Red Line to Dupont. Schedules for the MARC train are at http://mta.maryland.gov/marc-train

OR I believe there is a bus that will take you to Greenbelt Metro and you can transfer from the Green line at Gallery Place.

I would add that Uber_DC is an alternative to cabs that is new this year. Towncar service with mobile phone apps to summon a car. A bit more expensive then a cab, but a new DC novelty.
