#ShmooCon 2013 Travel #ProTips

For better or worse, I spend a lot of time in DC so here are some travel tips I've put together for your ShmooCon weekend. Remember the conference is at the Hyatt Regency this year! Going to the Hilton will be a waste of your time. :-)

Arriving via DCA (Reagan National)? Take the Yellow Line to Gallery Place/Chinatown and then the Red Line to Union Station. Walk two blocks west on E Street then one block south on New Jersey Ave.

Arriving via IAD (Dulles)? The Metro doesn't reach out that far. Try the Super Shuttle or take a cab to somewhere along the Orange Line (alternatively, you could take a cab the entire way, but it will cost you upwards of $80 or more). Take the Orange Line to Metro Center and then the Red Line to Union Station. Walk two blocks west on E Street then one block south on New Jersey Ave.

Arriving via BWI? Take the MARC Penn Line to Union Station, then follow the directions below via Union Station. The MARC Penn Line schedule is here, but be warned the MARC does not run on weekends.

Alternate BWI method: Alternatively, you can take the B30 bus from BWI to Greenbelt, then hop on the Metro Green Line. Ride the Green Line to Gallery Place/Chinatown and then the Red Line to Union Station. Walk two blocks west on E Street then one block south on New Jersey Ave.

A few extra tips:

Taking a taxi? Use this calculator.

Metro trains run less frequently on the weekends. You can expect to wait 10-20 minutes (or more) for a train.

"DC Metro Rails" is a useful Android app for Metro arrival times. There are several similar ones for the iPhone.

The weekend weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 30's and 40's for most of the weekend. Maybe some rain. Compared to previous years it should be very nice!
